The pandemic might have put a hold on motorsports tournaments worldwide since last year, but that’s still not enough to dampen out the love that fans have for them. Despite the lack of live events, organisers and other companies have tried to cater to fans’ longing for their motorsports fix in different ways, including through video games.

As a result, there’s plenty to look forward to in 2021 regarding racing video games across all platforms.

In this article, we’re going to take a quick look at just a few of those titles to help you satisfy your hunger for motorsports action!

Need For Speed 2021

Available on: Consoles, but it’s not clear yet which ones exactly.

Expected release: End of 2021 or later.

Trailer link: No official trailer, but here’s a sneak peek

Somewhere in 2020, some gameplay videos of Need For Speed 2021 were supposedly leaked online. However, not many details exist about this game other than rumours that it’s supposed to be released at the end of 2021.

Recently, though, many gaming news outlets reported that EA, the maker of Need for Speed, has delayed the game’s release even further into 2022. The reason for the delay? The company wants its developers to focus on producing another game first.

So, will it be Need for Speed 2021 or 2022? At this point, there are a lot of unknowns about this game. Still, it’s worth keeping an eye out for updates about this game throughout 2021. It’s definitely on its way, even if there’s no confirmed release date yet.

F1 2021

Available on: Possibly Playstation, Xbox, PC (through Steam).

Expected release: No official announcement but predicted to come out mid-2021.

Trailer link: None so far.

This is another video game that has no concrete details being released yet. Like some of the other games on this list, the only information known to the public comes from online leaks and predictions based on previous releases.

However, based on previous releases, many expect the latest instalment of this game by Codemasters to come out somewhere in the middle of the year.

Still, F1 fans can rest assured that there’s a high likelihood of this game coming out simultaneously as previous versions, which is estimated to be somewhere in June or July 2021.

Monster Jam: Steel Titans 2

Available on: Xbox One, PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch

Expected release: March 2021.

Trailer link: Announcement Trailer

Even in the real world, motorsports isn’t just limited to F1 and street racing. There are plenty of other types of vehicles and competitions out there that include monster trucks. For fans of monster trucks, that’s where Monster Jam: Steel Titans 2 comes in.

Unlike the two previous titles on this list, there’s no uncertainty about this game. All of the release details are known, and the trailer has already been released quite a while ago (the link is above).

The game itself has already been released a few days ago and should be available worldwide very soon.

As far as vehicle choice goes, this game allows you to choose from among 38 different types of monster trucks. On top of that, you can even choose to race a school bus, believe it or not!

The racing in this game takes place in many different worlds. Not exactly the most realistic of video games, but it’s safe to assume that fans aren’t necessarily looking for realism when it comes to monster trucks.

For those looking to play alongside other real players rather than just the game’s AI, there’s even a multiplayer feature that connects you to players from all across the world.

Without a doubt, there’s lots of fun to be had with this title.

Monster Energy Supercross: The Official Videogame 4

Available on: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, Xbox Series X and Series S, PlayStation 5.

Expected release: March 2021.

Trailer link: Announcement trailer.

For motorsports fans that prefer two-wheeled competition, you can’t go wrong with Monster Energy Supercross: The Official Videogame 4. A few days ago, this title came out on PC and the leading gaming platforms like Xbox and Playstation.

Besides the raw adrenaline of racing, the game also comes with exciting features. Firstly, the game has a career mode allowing you to progress and develop skills. More interestingly, though, is the new track editor. As the name suggests, it will enable you to be creative and design your own track, which you’ll also get to race on yourself!

As you might expect from a motorsports video game, you have a wide range of riders to select from. Plus, there’s a lot of customisation that you can do throughout the game to make the experience uniquely yours.

Gran Turismo 7

Available on: PS5

Expected release: Delayed to 2022.

Trailer link: Announcement trailer.

The Gran Turismo series has been around for quite some time. In fact, Gran Turismo 7 is meant to be the 8th instalment of the series. The game prides itself on being the ultimate racing simulator explicitly designed for Playstation consoles.

What makes this game so unique is that it uses licensed reproductions of real-world, high-performance vehicles. The game focuses on recreating those cars’ performance and look, giving players a very high degree of realism in the game.

Okay, so this game was supposed to come out sometime in 2021. Unfortunately, its developers have recently confirmed that they’re pushing that date back to somewhere in 2022 due to issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Somehow, that comes as no surprise, considering how other games meant for this year have also been pushed back.

Still, at least there are plenty of confirmed details which give us a lot to look forward to. Since the game was supposed to come out this year, much of the info about it has been confirmed and released since last year in 2020. That includes the announcement trailer as well, which is linked at the top of this article.

Final Thoughts

While some motorsports game titles have been delayed to next year, it still gives us plenty to look forward to this year. Keep your eyes open on Youtube and other social media networks as details slowly come out about delayed games. In the meantime, you’ll have plenty of racing games already released this year to keep you occupied.
