Automotive Companies Giving Back to Society

CSR (Corporate Social Responsibilities) plays an important role in any companies out there. The automotive industry is not missing out on their part either. From education to community development, there are many CSR movements one can do.

A children’s traffic safety school in China was opened last year by the German Automaker, BMW. The entrance is free for all and this is a platform to educate children on traffic safety. Anton Heiss, the President and CEO of BMW Brilliance Automotive said, “We are happy to see that we have made a real difference in building a safer world for Chinese children, and that is why we persist in running the safety education programme.” On the other hand, BMW also volunteered to help students promote environmental protection.

PGA Cars Inc. started a Porsche Training and Recruitment Centre Asia (PTRCA) way back in 2008 and it is the first training facility of Porsche outside of Germany. The training facility under the collaboration of PGA Cars, Porsche AG, and Don Bosco Technical Institute has set a primary goal to provide training to underprivileged young Filipinos. One of the mission is to also create “Mechatronics” among the selected student-scholars.

Nissan Motor Corporation on the other hand aims to protect the planet and make the world a better place for future generations. According to their CSR page, they have an approach called “Blue Citizenship”. It is a pyramid chart of strategies that meets the expectations of society. This year, Nissan Group of North America pledges support to the Hurricane Harvey Relief and recovery efforts in the US.  They also extended their support to aid for flood relief in Japan’s Kyushu region. In 2016, they are recognized by the Dow Jones Sustainability Index and is the only Japanese auto company to receive this recognition.

This year, Tesla’s first project to restore electricity in Puerto Rico is a children’s hospital in San Juan. They also helped the U.S. territory to recover from the Hurricane Maria. Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla has also personally donated $250,000 to the relief effort.

Kudos to the automotive industry for taking great measures in their CSR initiatives!
